Images of Moidart
Moidart (Gaelic: Mùideart: muddy sea loch) – known as the Rough Bounds, is almost surrounded by water. To the east and south Loch Shiel and the River Shiel, separating Moidart from Sunart and Ardnamurchan. Its western edge is bounded by Loch Moidart and the Sound of Arisaig, while its northern boundary is formed by Loch Ailort and Loch Eilt. Its eastern interior is mountainous, with Beinn Odhar Bheag (2894 feet), Rois-Bheinn (2894 feet) and Sgurr na Ba Glaise (2867 feet) being the tallest. In the west, its coastline is rocky and dramatic, with fine views of the Small Isles of Eigg, Muck and Rùm, particularly at the old crofting settlement of Smirisary. Like Ardnamurchan, it too has been designated as a National Scenic Area because of its outstanding scenery and landscape features.
